The Old Man: Why he should never have existed in the games.

Reason #1: In the english versions of RGB, he is grumpy from not having his coffee. HOWEVER, in the Japanese versions, he is passed out on the ground, drunk. This is a freaking game for kids! Hello! Bad lessons here!

Reason #2: If you have fly, and can access Cinibar Island, you can BADLY glitch your game. Watch the old man catch the Weedle, then fly to Cinnibar Island. After that, surf up and down the east coast of the island. You will find various pokemon at LVL 80, 100, or 127. Among these pokemon are: Missingno., 'M, and Mewtwo. Your name will be permanently stuck as Old Man from then on...

Reason #3: He is just plain grumpy. Who doesn't let someone pass just because he hasn't had his coffee? Nintendo could have put a guard or a fence or something...

A guard would have been better, so that it would be like in Cerulean where the guard is blocking the way to the house that the Team Rocket Grunt stole from.
