No one can deny it looks fun to travel the world with a best friend who rides on your shoulder and unleashes high voltage blasts on your opponents. But beyond making powerful new Pokemon friends, what's the real point of becoming a Pokemon Trainer?

Just as caring for a pet can teach children responsibility, training Pokemon is a growth experience. A Trainer has to work hard to help a Pokemon to achieve its full potential - beyond simply putting in the time for training workouts, a Trainer also learns to understand another living creature's needs and desires.

A Pokemon journey itself is also a catalyst for growth. Most young Trainers still have a lot of hard lessons to learn about winning, losing, and how they relate to their Pokemon. The experience of leaving home and facing new situations helps both people and Pokemon develop maturity and confidence.

There's no "right" way to train a Pokemon; every Pokemon's personality is unique, just as every Trainer's personality is unique

Ash may be an excellent Trainer, but not all good Trainers have to interact with their Pokemon just like he does.

The one think that all good Trainers do have in common, however, is a bond of trust and understanding with their Pokemon 😍.

Trust Your Pokemon

Trainers need to trust their Pokemon, but Pokemon are also intelligent enough to pick up on Trainer's uncertainty. It's a two way street; if a Trainer hesitates when giving orders or doesn't feel comfortable with a Pokemon, the Pokemon reacts accordingly 😉

Honesty is the best policy: Pokemon dislike being the butt of a joke as much as anyone else, so when Ash tries to spook his Corplish to teach it a lesson, Corplish is none too happy to discover it's been tricked. It doesn't take much for Corplish to turn on Ash when it thinks it's been played for a fool a second time, either!

Know Your Pokemon

Good Trainers also need to be in synch with their Pokemon. Ideally, Trainer and Pokemon should work together as if each knows what the other is thinking. That doesn't mean teaching a Pokemon to blindly obey commands; instead a Trainer needs to be aware of a Pokemon's own rhythms and preferences in order to work as an effective team in battle.

Dawn and her Buizel had trouble battling at first, since Dawn was out of synch with Buizel's timing. After a helpful lesson from Lucian of the Elite Four, Dawn learned how to work with Buizel - although it remained more interested in battles than Pokemon Contests.

Which do you think are your top qualities that make you an exceptional Trainer?

A Pokemon Trainer can be considered anyone who owns a Pokemon and works with it for a specific purpose - Pokemon Breeders, Pokemon Coordintors, and Pokemon Connoisseurs are also Trainers, in a sense. But for the most part, a Pokemon Trainer is thought of as someone who trains his or her Pokemon to battle, forging a bond that makes both partners stronger.

The Journey Begins

I will Journey to gain the wisdom of Pokemon Training ~ Ash Ketchum

Each Trainer's journey can start as early as age 10, when a kid can become a Trainer and select one of three Pokemon to be his or her First Partner. The selection varies by region, but Trainers can always choose from a Fire-type, Grass-type, or Water-type Pokemon.

Starting Trainers also receive Poke Balls so they can start catching Pokemon. There's no limit to how many Pokemon Trainers can catch, but they can only bring up to six Pokemon with them at any time. If they want to use another Pokemon after they've reached their limit, they'll need to send at least one of their Pokemon back to a Pokemon Professor or other person for holding.

magearna 2

Magearna is a dual-type Steel/Fairy Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation VII.
While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, Magearna has a second form colored gold and red known as Original Color Magearna that is not currently obtainable in the games, although it has been shown in the anime. The difference between these forms is purely aesthetic.

Magearna is a metallic, bipedal Pokémon that is made up primarily of spheres. Its head is a medium-sized sphere with a slight point in the back. Around its head is a gear with seven teeth, but the gear does not cover its chin. It has two large, rabbit-like ears with gold rims, a tiny nose and mouth, and light red eyes with pinkish ovals in the center. In the centers of the ovals are white crosses, and thin gold wiring encircles each eye with two small prongs similar to eyelashes. The rabbit-like ears appear to be two halves of a large disc held together by a hinge at the top.
Magearna's upper body is similar to a Poké Ball: it is divided into two light blue portions by a thick gray band. In the front center of the band is a circular depression that is half-blue and half-pink. You can read more in bulbapedia.

Necrozma 3

Necrozma is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VII.

Necrozma is a Pokémon whose body appears to be constructed out of black crystalline material; its disproportionately large arms have three claws jutting out of them, as well as a single large whitish crystal protruding backwards from each arm. Its small legs bend backwards like a bird's and have three toes each. However, it does not seem to use them as it can naturally levitate through unknown methods. A single spine grows out of each of its shoulders, which resembles a hook. Its head and torso are covered in spikes, and it possesses a collection of multicolored shapes in the center of its head where a face should be. The back of its head is white, with a dark gray symbol resembling a star in the center. Read more in Bulbapedia.

ultra beast by mimida21j

The Ultra Beasts are a group of extradimensional Pokémon originating from Ultra Space. They are believed to possess great power and pose a threat to humans and regular Pokémon, especially to those who have entered an Ultra Wormhole. This is because they mistake the energy remaining on these people as a possible route back to their own dimension, and become hostile upon discovering that it is not. (from bulbapedia)
There are currently seven known Ultra Beasts:

Nihilego (codenamed UB-01 Symbiont).

Nihilego resembles a jellyfish. It is mostly white and has tentacles shaped like the hair, dress, and legs of a girl. The top of its head is a bell that resembles a sun hat. The bell is transparent save for six pointed stars around the crown, and the brim has a blue edge. The ends of the "hair" fly out, resembling arms, and the outer tentacles of the "dress" have two bubbles inside. (Bulbapedia)

Buzzwole (codenamed UB-02 Absorption)

Buzzwole resembles a large, red, anthropomorphic mosquito. It has bulging muscles that appear to be made out of sacs that are filled with a red fluid that has small white bubbles rising in it. These muscles also have white "veins" running through them, and are said to be stronger than steel. There are also black spikes on Buzzwole's body, particularly its shoulders, elbows and knees. Its head is small and flat, with two red compound eyes, and two black, spherical basal joints for its red and black antennae between them. Protruding from under these joints is a long, silver proboscis, which is said to be as hard as diamond. It has four legs without feet and two pairs of orange, translucent wings. (Bulbapedia)
